Mountain
climbing is an extreme sport and is easily associated to the climber’s
physical, emotional and mental prowess. Without the three major elements
needed, ascent to a mountain’s peak can tantamount to a grave danger. All over
the world, mountaineers would risk their lives to that prove that nature is
tamable but reaching the zenith of any land formation possible. On this
journey, some succeeded but others did not.
Still,
the personal thirst on such an extreme activity cannot be quenched by some foreboding
news. Regardless if a mountaineer dies, the effect that stirs inside another
mountaineer’s body is completely contradictory and irreversible as others would
think. Death of a fellow climber breeds a nagging curiosity. What may have caused him/her that? He/She
didn’t make it, will I? Is the trek really that bad?
This itch
would then turn to desire wherein it becomes a dream. Grim and sad, it is not
to be addlepated to the reality of every climber’s dream. And what, of course,
is every climber’s dream, you ask? Simple: to climb every climbable mountain
there is.
This notion
is a really exciting one, on that I can confess. The feeling of being on top of
every living creature is intoxicating already. But as a well-seasoned mountaineer,
I have learned many years ago that dreams should always be bounded by realism
and practicality. Without it, you are like rising everything you’ve got, life
and all, for something that would not benefit you upon acquisition. It is a
total waste.
Mistake
me not; I am not trying to dissuade you on this remarkable activity. More likely,
think of this as an insight of a reality, an advice, a preparation. Behind every
canopy you see hides some of the most straightforward facts about mountain
climbing.
1.
It is dangerous.
2.
People have died in this.
3.
Not every mountain is climbable.
Not every mountain is climbable. I am not trying to instill some reverse some reverse psychology on you. It is an axiom that no matter how hard you try to scale the mountains of the world, some are just untamable as man thought.
In Mt. Everest alone, tourists
die every year trying to reach the mountain peak, with some, due to
difficulties, never went descend anymore. Literally. Over all, it is believed
that there are hundreds of dead bodies scattered and undiscovered in the Himalayan
Mountains, perfectly preserved by the cold weather. Some of the corpses where
even used as landmarks directing contemporary climbers.
Not that nobody minds about them,
it is just that the Himalayan landscape has an extreme weather condition that attempting
to recover a corpse will eventually lead to the production of more corpses. If
you are not convinced, you see some of the dead bodies here by clicking the link. (WARNING: Potential offensive visuals)
