Mayon Volcano or commonly referred to as Mt. Mayon is considered as one of the most popular active volcanoes in the Philippines because of its "perfect cone shape". With an elevation of 8,081' or 2,463 m, and its international reputation, the famous volcano is definitely included in the wishlist of every adventurer.
Tourists and locals alike frequently
visit the Mt. Mayon to take pictures and simply gaze at the volcano's
perfection from afar. Located in the province of Albay, Mt. Mayon serves
as a famous landmark for the province. It has helped a lot in boosting
the tourism industry of Albay and has given the local people additional
livelihood.
Apart
from its beauty, Mt. Mayon is also known as the most active volcano in
the Philippines. In fact, for the past 400 years, it has already erupted
for more than 48 times. February 1616 is the date of the first ever
recorded eruption of the volcano - this was discovered through the
log of a Dutch explorer named Joris van Spilbergen.
Despite many eruptions, Mt. Mayon managed to retain its beauty. It never fails to attract more tourists to catch a glimpse of its perfection. To date, unfortunately for climbers, climbing the summit or crater is prohibited by the government due to the volcano's unpredictable behavior.
